Parkinsonian Syndrome as a Neurological Manifestation of Behcet's Disease1998 •
ABSTRACT:Background:The central nervous system is often involved in Behcet's disease. Most common are meningoencephalitic and brain stem syndromes. Although basal ganglia involvement is not an uncommon finding on necropsy, there are only single reports on extrapyramidal syndromes-dyskinesia, chorea and Parkinsonism in patients with Behcet's disease.Case study:We report a patient fulfilling the criteria of the International Study Group for Behcet's disease. He had recurrent oral ulcerations, bilateral posterior uveitis and retinal vasculitis, skin papules and pustules, and recurrent monoarthritis. Neurologic examination revealed pseudobulbar palsy, slight and asymmetric bilateral pyramidal syndrome, muscle rigidity involving the four limbs, bradykinesia, masked face, and impaired postural reflexes. There was postural tremor in the extremities and myoclonic jerks involving the tongue and face muscles. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated small bilateral multifocal hyper...

In vitro studies with renal proximal tubule cells show direct cytotoxicity of Androctonus australis hector scorpion venom triggered by oxidative stress, caspase activation and apoptosis2016 •
Scorpion envenomation injures a number of organs, including the kidney. Mechanisms proposed to explain the renal tubule injury include direct effects of venom on tubule epithelial cells, as well as indirect effects of the autonomic nervous system, and inflammation. Here, we report direct effects of Androctonus australis hector (Aah) scorpion venom on the viability of Renal Proximal Tubule (RPT) cells in vitro, unlike distal tubule and collecting duct cells. Extensive NucGreen nuclear staining was observed in immortalized rabbit RPT cells following treatment with Aah venom, consistent with cytotoxicity. The involvement of oxidative stress is supported by the observations that 1) anti-oxidants mitigated the Aah venom-induced decrease in the number of viable RPT cells, and 2) Aah venom-treated RPT cells were intensively stained with the CellROX(®) Deep Red reagent, an indicator of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). Relevance to normal RPT cells is supported by the red fluorescence observed...
impact of project scheduling to organisational performance
OKUKU CAMPUS FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION IMPACT OF PROJECT SCHEDULING ON OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE OF ORGARNISATION COURSE TITLE: QUANTITATIVE METHOD FOR MANAGEMENT2020 •
Project scheduling plays an imperative role in successful operational performance of an organization, despite the crucial role of this tool, there still exist many challenges in using it efficiently. Some projects schedules are established at the conception of the project and never evaluated for feasibility until problems arise. Besides, some project managers lack the expertise required for preparing effective project schedule. This study therefore, examines the the impact of project Page 16 of 17 scheduling on operational performance of an organization and factors affecting project scheduling and also establishes the severity of these factors. Review of extant literatures revealed that there is positive impact of project scheduling with operational performance of an organization. It was revealed that project scheduling technique, application of software in project scheduling, effective leadership, exposure to novel technology and software for project scheduling, efficient training of staff, efficient support from project stakeholders, accurate estimate of labour and material requirement will enhance project scheduling which will in turn enhance the operational performance of the organization. Complexity and the materials requirement for the work are the most important factors that determines project scheduling; Poor managerial decision on critical activity, lack of expertise in scheduling and inaccurate estimate of human resources required are the top factors hindering the performance of project scheduling. This study recommends the use of qualified and certified professional in managing project schedule and the use of scientific approach rather than rule of thumb in estimating for labor and materials requirement, as this will enhance the performance of project scheduling and propels efficient operational performance in organizations in Nigeria and the world at large.
