Twelve HAYES type IIA lampmoulds (M 1-12) and one terracotta mould (M 13) from Sidi Marzouk Tounsi in Central Tunisia are described, allowing a definition of characteristic ornaments used in this important pottery production centre at the end of the fourth and the beginning of the fifth centuries A.D. The moulds complete the material presented in the preliminary report of PEACOCK et al. (1990) are compared to material in the Archaeological State Collection Munich. The production of figural terracottas, as proved ny the horse mould M 13, proves a hitherto unknown aspect of ceramic production at Sidi Marzouk Tounsi.
In 1876, the collection of the Hungarian National Museum acquired an ornate sword and a handful of other finds that had been discovered in a grave at Turócszentmárton (Blatnica). Corroded to the sword blade was a clover-shaped iron mount of the scabbard strap; an oval iron mount (now lost) and a strap-end was inventoried together with the other finds. During the conservation and restoration of the iron mounts in 2014, it was noted that the mounts were decorated with a bichrome inlay of silver and copper wire arranged in a simple lattice pattern made up of lozenges of silver wire framed with copper wire. Analogies to this decorative pattern can be found on other sword strap mounts from Balhorn (near Paderborn) and Češov (Central Bohemia), while a variant has been published from Hildesheim. The mounts from these three sites can be assigned to the earlier or the mid-ninth century. Although the lozenge pattern of the sword strap mounts appear to harmonise with the lozenges and semi-circular motifs adorning the sword’s hilt, the striking differences in style and workmanship nonetheless raise doubts as to whether the original sword strap had indeed been decorated with these mounts.

Henchir Bourgou (Djerba, Tunesien). Jh. v. Chr. -2. Jh. n. Chr.)Co-authored by Sami Ben Tahar, Philipp von Rummel, Karin Mansel, Heike Möller, Tomoo Mukai, Thomas Lappi, Joris Peters, Simon Trixl, Mekki Aoudi, Michèle Dinies and Saskia Büchner. The ancient settlement of Henchir Bourgou/Djerba (Tunisia) has been the focus of joint research by the Tunisian Institut National du Patrimoine (INP) and the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) since 2017. The article summarizes the results of a first sondage in the centre of the settlement area. The sequence of layers and the building features from the first settlement phases in the 8th century B.C. to the last traces of intensive occupation at the highest point of the settlement area in the last half of the 2nd century A.D., together with the find pottery and accompanying scientific investigations, provide a first overview of the settlement and economic history of Henchir Bourgou.
