O-GlcNAc expression levels epigenetically regulate colon cancer tumorigenesis by affecting the cancer stem cell compartment via modulating expression of transcriptional factor MYBL12017 •
To study the regulation of colorectal adenocarcinoma progression by O-GlcNAc, we have focused on the O-GlcNAc-mediated epigenetic regulation of human colon cancer stem cells (CCSC). Xenograft tumors from colon tumor cells with OGT knockdown grew significantly slower than those formed from control cells, indicating a reduced proliferation of tumor cells due to inhibition of OGT expression. Significant reduction of CCSC population was observed in the tumor cells after OGT knockdown, while tumor cells treated with O-GlcNAcase inhibitor showed an increased CCSC population, indicating that O-GlcNAc levels regulated the CCSC compartment. When grown in suspension, tumor cells with OGT knockdown showed a reduced ability to form tumorspheres, indicating a reduced self-renewal of CCSC due to reduced levels of O-GlcNAc. ChIP-seq experiments using an anti-O-GlcNAc antibody revealed significant chromatin enrichment of O-GlcNAc modified proteins at the promoter of the transcription factor MYBL1, ...

Molecular and morphological data resurrect the long neglected Carex laxula (Cyperaceae) and expand its range in the western MediterraneanCarex sylvatica subsp. paui is a poorly studied taxon considered endemic from a few places in the western Mediterranean. It has been frequently misidentified as C. sylvatica subsp. sylvatica. To date, it has been reported only from the NE Iberian Peninsula and the NW Africa. We use molecular —nuclear ribosomal and plastid sequences— and morphological data to shed light on the taxonomic circumscription and distribution of this taxon, especially regarding its distinction from the type subspecies. The genetic data support the recognition of C. sylvatica subsp. paui as an independent taxon, and confirm new records from the Balearic and Tuscan archipelagos. It implies a considerable increase in its range and a new taxon for the Italian flora. Strikingly, the morphometric analyses revealed that the Sicilian type specimen ofC. laxula identifies this species with C. sylvatica subsp. paui. We consider that the taxon should be ranked at the species level. Based on the priority of the name C. ...

Wanted: New Business Models for Profitable Expansion of Mobile Telephony in Rural India2010 •
Mobile network operators' agendas for profitable growth include expansion into rural areas of developing countries, especially India. However, capitalizing on that opportunity will not be easy. Our research suggests that operators have yet to create and implement business models capable of driving profitable growth through rural expansion. We found that mobile network operators hold some mistaken assumptions about rural consumers’ needs and desires regarding mobile services. To achieve profitable growth and high performance through rural expansion, operators must develop a more accurate understanding of the mobile value proposition in rural communities, as well as potential barriers to adoption. . Mobile operators in rural markets must also build business models that work in the short term as well as the long term. Sacrificing short-term revenues to expand market footprint may not be the best strategy, because stiffening competition in urban markets will likely prevent operators...

Assessing grazing intensity plant frequency in Kordofan Region2015 •
This study was conducted in Um "Nabag" (15km north of "Bara"), "Dilling" (160km south of "Elobeid") and "Eldemiokya" (30km east of "Elobeid"). The main objective of this study is to assess the effect of grazing on growth performance of natural rangelands in Kordofan region. The specific objectives: To assess the effect of grazing level on vegetation frequency. The results showed different levels of grazing intensity at different sites as indicated by plants frequency and biomass. Intensive grazing levels were found at Bara in the north, early and late in the rainy season but in Dilling it was not found in the late in the rainy season for both seasons (2008 and 2009) which indicated longer stay of herders in "Bara" area as a rainy season residences. Frequency of the species between non- grazed and grazed areas showed a decrease for the two seasons especially for preferred species at the different sites as in the ca...

GTPA: A Generative Model For Online Mentor-Apprentice NetworksThere is a large body of work on the evolution of graphs in various domains, which shows that many real graphs evolve in a similar manner. In this paper we study a novel type of network formed by mentor-apprentice relationships in a massively multiplayer online role playing game. We observe that some of the static and dynamic laws which have been observed in many other real world networks are not observed in this network. Consequently well known graph generators like Preferential Attachment, Forest Fire, Butterfly, RTM, etc., cannot be applied to such mentoring networks. We propose a novel generative model to generate networks with the characteristics of mentoring networks.
