From 2011 to 2015, the site of “La Taille Marie” in Aiseau-Presles (Bel.) has been completely excavated by the University of Brussels, in the framework of a research program focusing on Gallo-Roman sanctuaries. Associated with a large rural settlement, the place appears to be dedicated to private cult. The oldest remains of religions activities, dating to the end of the first century BP, are some layers of scattered votive material including small pots, coins and fibulae. A stone temple was built around 100/110 AD, as well as a rough pavement covering the sacred space. According to the presence of more organized pit deposits, the patterns of ritual practices also changed from that time. The sanctuary distinguishes itself by hundreds of miniature iron ploughshares discovered all over the site. Some traces of iron craft suggests those votive objects may have been locally produced. The sanctuary of Aiseau-Presles, used until the 4th century, seems to be a small shrine housing a local deity.
