Evaluating results of laparoscopic gastric banding surgery to manage the obesity at Viet Duc University Hospital2019 •
Introduction: Obesity is an increasing trends in Vietnam. Laparoscopic gastric band is an option to manage this problem. The aim of study is to evaluate the result of laparoscopic gastric banding for treatment of obesity in Viet Duc University Hospital Material and Methods: An uncontrolled interventional clinical trial in 71 patients underwent laparoscopic gastric banding from May 2007 to July 2017 Results: 71 patients underwent laparoscopic gastric banding enrolled in this series. Of them, prophylactic antibiotics including cefazolin was in 87.3% and cefuroxime in 12.7%. The successful rate of procedure was 100%. All patients were placed with 4 trocars. 59,2% of patients were fixed with 3 stitches to the front of stomach and 40,8% were fixed by 4 stitches to front of stomach. The postoperative complications for band migration was 1,4%. No deaths neither complications such as perforation of the esophagus and stomach were observed. Conclusion: The study found that prophylactic antibi...

Critical Role of Endothelial Notch1 Signaling in Postnatal Angiogenesis2007 •
Notch receptors are important mediators of cell fate during embryogenesis, but their role in adult physiology, particularly in postnatal angiogenesis, remains unknown. Of the Notch receptors, only Notch1 and Notch4 are expressed in vascular endothelial cells. Here we show that blood flow recovery and postnatal neovascularization in response to hindlimb ischemia in haploinsufficient global or endothelial-specific Notch1 +/− mice, but not Notch4 −/− mice, were impaired compared with wild-type mice. The expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in response to ischemia was comparable between wild-type and Notch mutant mice, suggesting that Notch1 is downstream of VEGF signaling. Treatment of endothelial cells with VEGF increases presenilin proteolytic processing, γ-secretase activity, Notch1 cleavage, and Hes-1 (hairy enhancer of split homolog-1) expression, all of which were blocked by treating endothelial cells with inhibitors of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kin...

In this paper I comment on Inan’s notions of propositional and objectual curiosity. Even though Inan offers an interesting and intuitive distinction between propositional and objectual curiosity, I want to question two aspects of his theory of curiosity. One aspect concerns his thesis that propositional curiosity is interdependent on epistemic attitudes such as belief, certainty and interest. Another aspect of his theory that I discuss is his thesis that objectual curiosity is not reducible to propositional curiosity. In more detail, in the fi rst part, I start off by explaining what propositional curiosity is according to Inan and I bring up two worries that I call: (i) over-complexity as a result of subjectivity and (ii) overcomplexity as a result of dynamics for the above mentioned epistemic attitudes. Both worries stress the problem of over-complexity of Inan’s theory of propositional curiosity. In the second part, I argue that objectual curiosity is, contrary to Inan’s hypothes...
